Introducing Ultrasound in Rural EMS

Point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) is becoming increasingly prevalent in the prehospital setting. Trauma is the most common indication, but atraumatic cardiac arrest is a common scenario that can benefit from POCUS as well.


However, not all state EMS agencies have adopted POCUS. In this article, we describe the process of getting POCUS onboard the ambulances of a rural Idaho county, a state which previously has not used ultrasound in EMS.
